Developed from the Bull and Terrier types of the past, the Pit Bull Terrier was bred as an all around farm dog,working the farms as a cattle/hog dog. Some chose to turn their talents into the sport of pit-fighting. The breed's tenacity and accompanying strength are unmatched in the canine world. The APBT is an individual breed and being recognized by more kennels clubs as we look into our future. At one time, the Pit Bull was a much loved and trustworthy companion. This breed was also an american icon due to an APBT serving in the military and saving many lives and recieving many awards; so a very special tribute to Sargent Stubby for all he did for this country and the true representation to this breed of being loyal and striving to please their owners. People who chose to train these dogs to fight and are raising these dogs in irresponsible manners are solely responsible for the BSL going on in our world today. This breed is no different from any other breed that is out there; they recieve their bad name due to what man kind makes them out to be. I must not forget the role that the media plays in this either. Most pit bull attacks reported by the media are in fact pit bull mixes or another type of bully breed. The Pit Bull's future may be irreparable due to what man has made this dog out to be. I am here to say differnet we will restore this breed and we will get people to understand the true pit bull and we will make a come back from what man has done. These dogs are very loyal and strive to please in everyway. Helen Keller, Lil Rascals (Petey), and Teddy Roosevelt are a few people affiliated with owning Pit Bulls. Pit Bulls excel in practically every canine task includong: herding, hunting, policing, cart pulling, and fly ball.
